Fill in a week in one go, and report across several projects
Version 2.0.47 ยท All release notes
Most weeks look a great deal like the one before them โ the same handful of work items, much the same shape of days. This release adds Copy last week to My Time Log: it takes last weekโs entries and offers them for this week, day for day, so a Wednesdayโs three hours becomes this Wednesdayโs three hours. You see exactly what will be written before anything is.
And the Summary is no longer tied to the project you happened to open it in: a new project filter takes several projects at once. It opens on your current project, so results are scoped to it from the first search โ where an unfiltered Summary could previously return a selected userโs time from any project.
There is a fix in here too. The Weekly shortfall report could show a person as further behind their target than their own My Time Log said they were, because some of their time was being left out of the reportโs total. The two now agree.

๐ Last week, offered for this week
Section titled โ๐ Last week, offered for this weekโCopy last week sits beside the Show assigned work items toggle on My Time Log. It opens last week as a miniature of the grid you already know: one row per work item, the seven days across the top, and a chip for every entry showing its hours and its time type.
Everything starts ticked. Untick a whole work item with the box on its row, or a single day by clicking its chip, and the total at the foot follows along so you always know what you are about to write. Copy comments too is on by default โ turn it off to bring the hours and the type across but leave the comments blank. Nothing is saved until you press Copy.
๐ Every rule you already have still applies
Section titled โ๐ Every rule you already have still appliesโCopying is still logging time, so a copied entry has to satisfy exactly what a typed one does. An entry that cannot be copied is shown struck through and cannot be ticked, and the reason is given in plain words beneath the grid: the work item is closed or has been deleted, the day it would land on is in the future or on or before your lock date, its time type has since been disabled, or your organisation requires a comment that entry does not carry.
Where Azure DevOps cannot confirm whether a work item is closed, the entry is left out rather than assumed safe โ the same cautious answer the Add Time Log form gives.
๐ Completed and Remaining, as usual
Section titled โ๐ Completed and Remaining, as usualโCopied entries keep your work items in step exactly as hand-typed ones do. Each work item is updated once, with the total of everything copied against it, and only with the entries that actually saved โ so if part of a copy fails, your fields are credited with what landed and nothing more, and you are told which entries did not go through.
And it will not double your week. An entry that matches one already logged in the week you are copying into โ same work item, same day, same type, same duration โ starts unticked and is marked as already there, so copying twice by mistake costs you nothing. Tick it if you genuinely did the same hour twice. If part of a copy fails, the dialog stays open with whatever saved already unticked, so pressing Copy again retries only the entries that did not go through.
There is no new setting and no new permission. If you logged nothing last week, the dialog says so rather than offering an empty grid.
๐ One Summary, several projects
Section titled โ๐ One Summary, several projectsโThe Summary has always reported on the project you opened it in, so seeing the week of someone who works across several meant opening the page again elsewhere and adding it up yourself. A Project box now sits beside the date range and takes as many as you need, with the same Select All, Clear and filter box the team picker beside it has.
Teams belong to a project, so the team list follows it: change the projects and the team you belong to in each of them is selected for you, with the user list following as always. Where more than one project is in play each team is listed with its project, since two projects may each have a team of the same name.
Nothing to set up, and your settings still hold. With Only show current project in Summary on, the filter shows that project and nothing else and the search stays pinned to it. Restrict summary to current user is now answered per project, and still fails closed while it is being worked out.
๐ก Only the time you are allowed to see
Section titled โ๐ก Only the time you are allowed to seeโFixed in v2.0.47
A work item can move on after time is logged against it โ into a project you cannot open, or behind an area path you are not permitted to see. The Summary still listed that time as a struck-through [NOT FOUND] row under Unknown project, counted it in the range total and the export, and even offered to delete it.
That time is now left out of the grid, the total and the export, and cannot be deleted. Project Administrators keep full control of the projects they administer: they still see these entries there and can remove them, which is how time logged against a permanently deleted work item is tidied up. Work items still in the recycle bin are unaffected.
๐ The report and the timesheet now agree
Section titled โ๐ The report and the timesheet now agreeโFixed in v2.0.47
Every time log entry is stamped with the week it belongs to when it is written. The Weekly shortfall report added up each personโs week using that stamp, but on older entries the stamp can be out of date โ an entry edited long ago, or one brought in from another system โ and any entry whose stamp did not match was quietly left out. My Time Log has always added up by the entryโs date instead, which is why the two could disagree.
The report now does the same: it takes the weekโs dates, Monday to Sunday, and counts every entry a person logged on them, in every project in the organisation. The Logged column is now the figure that person sees at the top of their own My Time Log for that week, and the shortfall follows from it.
The Team filter on the report works as before: it decides who is listed, and never narrows what is counted for them. There is nothing to set up.
Full change list
Section titled โFull change listโMy Time Log: add Copy last week, for the weeks that look like the one before them. A button beside Show assigned work items opens last week as a miniature of the grid โ one row per work item, seven days across, a chip per entry โ and writes it into this week day for day. Everything starts ticked; untick a work item or a single day and the total follows. Nothing is written until Copy is pressed, and Copy comments too (on by default) decides whether comments travel with the hours. Every rule that governs a typed entry governs a copied one: one that cannot be copied is struck through and the reason given โ the work item is closed, deleted or its state unconfirmed (which fails closed), the target day is in the future or on/before the lock date, its time type has since been disabled, or a required comment is missing. Completed and Remaining update once per work item, with the total of what actually saved, so a partial copy credits only what landed. Copying twice does not double the week: an entry matching one already logged (same work item, day, type and duration) starts unticked, and after a partial failure the dialog stays open with the saved entries unticked, so Copy retries only what failed. Time Log Summary: add a Project filter, so time can be reported beyond the project the hub is open in. It sits beside the date range, takes several projects at once, and offers the same Select All, Clear and filter box as the team picker. It opens on the current project, so results are scoped to it from the first search โ where an unfiltered Summary could previously return a selected userโs time from any project. Teams belong to a project, so changing the filter reloads the team list and re-selects the team you belong to in each project chosen, with the user list following; where more than one project is in play each team is listed with its project, since names can repeat. The Only show current project in Summary option still holds โ with it on the filter shows that project alone and the search stays pinned to it โ and Restrict summary to current user is now answered per project, still failing closed while it resolves. A project whose teams cannot be read no longer costs the others theirs: the rest load and a message names what is missing. Organisations with a single project do not see the filter at all โ there is nothing to choose. Time Log Summary: hide time logs on work items you are not authorised to see โ for example one since moved into a project you cannot read. They previously appeared as a struck-through [NOT FOUND] row, counted in the total and export and could be deleted; they are now left out and cannot be deleted. Project Administrators still see and can delete them in the projects they administer. Weekly shortfall report: Logged now matches My Time Log for the same user and week. The report summed each userโs week on a week key stamped when the entry was written, and older entries can carry an out-of-date key, so their time was silently left out and the report read low. It now sums by date, Monday to Sunday, across every project in the organisation โ the figure My Time Log has always shown โ so the two agree. The team filter still only chooses which users are listed.
