A rebuilt Summary, a simpler search, and grouping you can arrange

This update is the biggest change to the Time Log Summary in a long while. The three search boxes are replaced by a single toolbar with ready-made date ranges, the grid opens fully expanded, and you can now arrange the grouping yourself — and save it. There’s nothing you need to do — here’s what changed.

🔍 A simpler Summary search

The three search cards at the top of the Summary are now a single toolbar. Pick a date range from the dropdown — This week, Last week, Last 2 weeks, Last 3 weeks, This month, Last month, Last 2 months, or a custom from/to range — choose your teams and users alongside it, and search exactly as before. The results themselves and the CSV export are unchanged.

The grid it produces has been rebuilt from scratch. After a search every row and every week is already expanded, so there’s no clicking down through the levels to see the detail. Weeks are separated by a clear divider in both the header and the body, work item rows show the real Azure DevOps work item type icon and link straight through to the work item, and deleted or missing work items still offer the action to clean up their orphaned time log entries.

🧩 Grouping you can arrange — and save

The Summary still opens on the familiar grouping — User › Project › Parent › Work Item › Type — but it is no longer fixed. Each level is a chip you can tick, untick, or drag into a different position (dragging a level that’s turned off switches it on), so you can look at your time by project first, or drop a level you never use. There is also a new Iteration level, for those that plan in sprints.

Once you’ve got an arrangement you like, Save grouping remembers it against your Azure DevOps account. It follows you to any browser or machine you sign in on, and it’s restored automatically the next time you open the page. It’s personal to you — saving your grouping doesn’t change what anyone else sees.
